Bhopal: AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday sought to play the emotional card on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saying that people connected to her grandmother.

Addressing an election rally in Chitrakoot under Vindhya region in Madhya Pradesh, Ms Vadra alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets upset when people raise slogans praising Indira Gandhi.

“People connect to Indira Gandhi and I will continue to invoke my grandmother (in my speeches)”, she said.

She was responding to the speeches made recently by Mr Modi accusing Ms Vadra and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of seeking votes in the name of their ‘Dada-Dadi, Nana-Nani’.

She said that on TV, an impression is being created that Mr Modi and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan have done a lot of work for the progress of the country.

But, the progress is not seen on the ground, she said.

She pledged caste census in Madhya Pradesh if her party forms government in the state in the November 17 assembly elections.

She criticised the disinvestment policy of the Centre, saying that the privatisation of big state-run companies amounted to corruption.
