Bengaluru:  The state government was caught off guard when grilled by Opposition members in the Legislative Assembly on Rs one credited to bank accounts of farmers as compensation for loss of crops last year.

The issue was raked up during zero hour by JD (S) member Shivalinge Gowda and leader of Opposition Mr Jagadish Shettar.

Law minister T B Jayachandra, expressed his surprise and assured to look into the matter. He, however, stated that the compensation amount was credited directly to bank accounts of beneficiaries but they were not aware of it.

In Hassan and Dharwad districts farmers discovered the credits only after they were briefed by the authorities concerned.
