Kurnool: Former chief minister and Telugu Desam national president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said the progress of society lies in the happiness of farmers.

Interacting with farmers in Kalyandurg of Anantapur district as part of his Praja Vedika programme, he asked how Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy can understand farmers’ issues when he has never visited agricultural fields.

Naidu emphasised that the entire nation is dependent on agriculture. The country will face severe consequences if farmers are in distress. Highlighting Anantapur district's vulnerability to drought, he recalled TDP's commitment to the region, particularly by starting the Handri-Neeva project.

The TD chief said supplying irrigation water is key to solving the drought problem permanently. For the purpose, he advocated interlinking rivers. “This will resolve drought issues across the country by providing water resources to farmers, while also generating power,” he underlined.

He vowed to address local and non-local issues in the academic sector once they regain power. He said that supplying irrigation water is the key to solving the drought problem permanently and advocated for interlinking rivers, stating that it would resolve drought issues across the country and provide essential water resources for all, including farmers, while generating power.
