Kannur: The CPM has nothing to hide in the murder of Congress leader Shuhaib at Mattannur, said CPM district secretary P.  Jayarajan. He told reporters here on  Wednesday  that the CPM  welcomed  the  High Court order on a CBI probe into  the murder. “We had cleared our stand  soon after the incident on February 12 itself and  deplored  the murder. At no point of investigation we had tried to protect  the killers or made any attempt to pressurise the investigation officials,”  Mr Jayarajan claimed.

On the Congress allegation that the accused who were arrested were not real but dummies, Mr Jayarajan said that the Congress leadership itself dropped the allegation when the witnesses identified the culprits. “There were many attempts earlier too targeting the CPM using the CBI. We will not be cowed down by such BJP gimmicks,” he added.

It may  be recalled that Mr Jayarajan had been trying to avert a CBI probe stating that the police investigation was  on the right track.  Though there was an attempt to derail the investigation by submitting a list of dummies,  the police refused to budge saying they have their own list and were  capable of nabbing the culprits.
