Need to change Indian election system: Vinod Kumar

WARANGAL: Vice-chairman of the state planning commission Boinapally Vinod Kumar laid stress on the need for the radical change in Indian election system for the sake of future generations.

Along with the TRS leaders, Vinod Kumar visited the famous Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple and offered special prayer after the TRS victory in the Munugode bypolls here at Vemulawada in Rajanna Sircilla district on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Vinod Kumar said that the TRS had gained 42.9 per cent of the votes in the Munugode Assembly bypoll. The Congress party lost its traditional vote bank, that is why it lost its deposit in the Munugode byelections.

 

Ponnam Prabhabkar, who contested on a Congress ticket from Karimnagar Parliamentary segment in the previous elections, has also lost his deposit. “If Ponnam would have got the required number of votes of deposit, then I would have won as an MP from Karimnagar,” he said.

Even though 62 per cent of votes were polled against the BJP, by getting only 32 per cent of votes across the country, the BJP formed a government at the centre and Narendra Modi became Prime Minister. This is the election system that India has, and it must be changed, he opined.

In other countries, the election system depends on the major percentage of votes any party gets in the election process and its candidates will be elected, which is good for coming generations. It is time for the intellectuals to discuss the Indian election system, he appealed.

Speaking about the development of the temple, Vinod Kumar said that the state government was committed to the development of the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple, which is known as Dakshina Kashi. Several developmental works along with the expansion of the temple are already in progress. Very soon, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will conduct a review meeting and take up the developmental works of the Rajanna temple along with completing the works as early as possible, he added.
