Kozhikode: Nationalism is not surrendering to the interests of the state but conforming to the values that take the nation forward, Indian Union Muslim League national secretary Abdu Samad Samadani has said.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘the youth getting silenced’ organised in connection with the Muslim Youth League state conference here on Sunday, Mr Samadani said the philosophies of nationalism and democracy are now turning upside down.

“When Nehru had freed education from individual worship, the new education system is going back to individual worship,” Mr Samadani said.

Human rights activist Suresh Khairnar said that fake nationalists are ruling the country. “Fascism attracts people in the beginning and creates stories using the tools of democracy,” he said.

“Those who keep silence at the violence in Kannur and Nadapuram are clamouring for NIA probe in Malappuram.”

Human rights activist Civic Chandran, MYL district president Sajid Naduvannur and state general secretary C.K. Subair also attended the seminar.
