39 TD supporters arrested for attacking YSRC supporters in West Godavari

Vijayawada: The police have arrested 39 supporters of the Telugu Desam (TD) on charges of attacking and pelting stones at the supporters of the YSRC at Taderu in Bhimavaram mandal of West Godavari district.

The arrested were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder, 120(b), and 324. Two top leaders of the TD, Thota Sitarama Lakshmi and Chinthamaneni Prabakar, were also arrested under Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder.

The incident took place on Monday night when the TD national general secretary, Nara Lokesh, was on a padayatra in the area. The two parties clashed and pelted stones at each other. Four police personnel were also injured in the attack.

The police have registered two FIRs in the case and are investigating further. They said that a few more arrests are likely in the coming days.
