CHENNAI: The DMK on Saturday announced D M Kathir Anand, son of one of the senior-most leaders of the party and former PWD minister, Durai Murugan, as its candidate for the August 5 Lok Sabha poll from Vellore constituency, reaffirming its faith in Kathir Anand's candidature.

Kathir Anand, who was in the media for all the wrong reasons in the run-up to the April 18 general elections to the Lok Sabha leading to the Election Commission rescinding the poll after complaints of irregularity and cash seizure by the Income Tax department in Vellore constituency, will contest on behalf of the DMK-led alliance in the coming poll.

The AIADMK on its part has also announced that its alliance partner in the Tamil Nadu NDA, A C Shanmugham of the New Justice Party, will be the candidate for Vellore LS constituency.

After Kathir Anand was announced as the DMK candidate by the party president, M K Stalin this morning, the former told waiting reporters outside the DMK office here that he did not see any problem in being re-nominated by the party to contest the Vellore seat. "We have not distributed any cash to buy votes (earlier in Vellore) and we do not face any problem," Kathir Anand said in a cryptic response and left the party office.
