Karnataka: Former turncoat Baburao Chinchansur given Congress ticket

Mangaluru: Baburao Chinchansur who campaigned against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has been given Congress party ticket for the Karnataka assembly elections. He will contest from Gurmitkal constituency in Yadgir district.

The former BJP MLC who recently quit the party and returned to the Congress.

The Congress, on Thursday, announced its list of candidates for 42 constituencies.

Chinchansur, is a five-time Congress MLA and had also served as the minister in Siddaramaiah government. He represented Chittapur for three times (1998, 1994 and 1999) and also represented Gurmitkal twice (2008 and 2013). He was the Minister for Textiles, Ports and Inland transport in the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah.

After losing the 2018 election, Chinchansur quit the Congress and joined the BJP, and became party MLC.

ANother turncoat VS Patil, who quit BJP and joined Congress recently has been fielded as party candidate from Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district.

Patil won Yellapur constituency in BJP ticket in 2008. He, however, lost the later elections against Congress candidate Shivaram Hebbar.  

VS Patil was appointed as the Chairman of North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation. But, the appointment was cancelled a few months ago.
Patil who was angry with the BJP quit the party and joined the Congress recently.

Congress is yet to declare the candidates for many other constituencies where it is witnessing internal fight for party ticket.
