Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Friday nudged the Centre to allow further archaeological excavation at Keezhadi near Madurai, work on which has been reportedly stalled by Central Advisory Board of Archaeology.

In a letter to Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma, Mr Stalin asked the Centre to provide necessary funds for excavation.

Terming the decision of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology to stop excavation "unfortunate", he said an excavation of Archaeological Survey of India there has revealed an ancient and important landmark of Tamil's civilization dating back to Sangam era, i.e. 2500 years ago.
