Vijayawada: The YSR Congress on Tuesday lodged a complaint about alleged enrollment of Telangana voters in Andhra Pradesh.

“This violated Section 17 of the Representation of People’s Act, 1950. No person shall be entitled to be registered in the electoral roll for more than one constituency,” the YSRC said.

A YSRC team led by social welfare ministr Merugu Nagarjuna, AP Planning Board vice-chairman and MLA Malladi Vishnu and MLC Lella Appi Reddy lodged the complaint with the chief electoral officer Mukesh Meena with evidence and proof at the AP Secretariat in Velagapudi.

Minister Nagarjuna said this was the biggest violation of electoral practices by the Telugu Desam in Hyderabad, Telangana. The TD conducted an election drive in Hyderabad in the name of "Andhra Pradesh New Voter Registration & Voter Verification Drive'' immediately after the Telangana election results were declared, he said.

He said the voters who have voted in Telangana recently are being illegally lured to get their names enrolled as a new voter in Andhra Pradesh.

Showing photographs of TD’s voter registration campaign, Nagarjuna stated that these photos clearly showed the illegal activity of the Telugu Desam and the banner carried the photos of TD leaders. He asked how a political party could openly and blatantly take up the “activity of Telangana voters getting enrolled in Andhra Pradesh electoral rolls.”

Malladi Vishnu said the YSRC requested the Election Commission to prevent such illegal activity and issue necessary directions to all DEOs, AEROs, BLOs to thoroughly verify all the Form 6 received and follow the election commission rules before accepting the Form 6.

MLC Appi Reddy referred to the former election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar levelling baseless allegations against Volunteers and affirmed that the YSRC government was not using the services of Volunteers in the election process.

He said that Ramesh Kumar should join the Telugu Desam. He urged the election commission to provide voting right to persons where they are residing and should not give voting right to Telangana voters in AP.
