Vijayawada: YSR Congress ministers and leaders have lodged a complaint with AP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena saying names of Telangana residents must be removed from the list of voters in AP.

Ministers Ch. Venugopala Krishna and Jogi Ramesh, MP M. Gurumurthy, and MLC Lella Appi Reddy called on CEO Mukesh Kumar at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat in Velagapudi on Wednesday.

They pointed out that enrolment of Telangana voters in Andhra Pradesh violates Section 17 of the Representation of People Act, 1950, which says no person is entitled to be registered in the electoral roll from more than one constituency.

The complaint of YSRC has come a day before Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to New Delhi on Thursday to complain to the Election Commission of India that YSRC is enrolling bogus voters.

Minister Venugopala Krishna said TDP has taken up the biggest violation of electoral practices by luring people from Hyderabad to enrol as voters in Andhra Pradesh.

Minister Jogi Ramesh said it has come to their notice that there are 4,30,264 voters whose names figure in the Hyderabad voters’ list and AP. He asked CEO Mukesh Kumar to remove such double entries from the AP voters’ list. Ramesh said they have presented evidence of such votes to the CEO so that they could be investigated and deleted.

The ministers accused Chandrababu Naidu of committing illegalities and blaming YSRC for them.

MLC Appi Reddy said they have asked the Election Commission to provide voting rights to individuals at the place they are residing and not in another state.
