Hyderabad: A delegation of BJP leaders, led by state unit vice president Malla Reddy, met chief electoral officer (CEO) Dr Rajat Kumar on Saturday and submitted a memorandum to mark their protest against the alleged misuse of power and violation of model code of conduct by TRS leaders in Huzurnagar.

The BJP urged the CEO to disqualify the TRS candidate from contesting in the Huzurnagar byelection and direct the local authorities to be impartial to facilitate free and fair elections.

The BJP memorandum stated that the TRS was also exceeding the spending limits. “We urge the chief electoral officer to disqualify TRS candidate Saidi Reddy from contesting the byelection under the Representation of People’s Act, 1951,” it said.

Mr Malla Reddy said, “We informed the chief electoral officer that the TRS leaders were threatening workers and sympathisers of Opposition parties. The ruling party is blatantly misusing the official machinery for its advantage in the byelection. While the police is checking each and every vehicle belonging to Opposition parties, those carrying TRS flags are allowed to pass.”

Another BJP leader, Mr Anthony Reddy, said TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao along with the party candidate held a road-show in the constituency which had more than 1,000 vehicles with TRS flags and
high volume sound systems.
