My government committed to resolving Mahadayi: PM Modi

Hubballi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has often been attacked by the Congress for failing to intervene in the Mahadayi water dispute, claimed on Saturday that the party was misleading the people on the issue and assured that his government was committed to resolving it through the dialogue among the riparian states.

Addressing a rally in Gadag, he recalled that the Congress had failed to find an amicable solution to the water dispute when it was in power at the Centre, Goa and Karnataka. “Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had spoken out against diversion of  Mahadayi waters to Karnataka during the Goa Assembly elections and it was the UPA government, which had constituted the Mahadayi Tribunal instead of resolving the dispute through dialogue,” he noted, adding, 

“The CM should ask the Congress high command to clarify its stand on the Mahadayi dispute instead of misleading the people on it. Siddaramaiah does not know how Sonia Gandhi instigated the Goans on the dispute for  the sake of votes in 2007 as he was in JD(S)  then. Changing parties has become common for him. But the BJP is committed to resolving the issue as drinking water is a basic need.”

Highlighting the schemes launched by the Centre for the development of the khadi and handloom industry, that Gadag is known for, Mr Modi said his government had come up with the ‘Khadi for nation, Khadi for fashion’ concept to popularise the sector.
