Chennai: State municipal administration minister S. P. Velumani, who joined issue with DMK working president M. K. Stalin in the multi-crore gutka scam, claimed that the DMK will land behind the bars  after the CBI inquiry in the case.

“It will be DMK men who will be punished and go to jail,” the Minister said responding to a question on Mr. Stalin’s claim that AIADMK Ministers and some top police officers would be arrested if the CBI conducts a fair probe.

Following the Coimbatore police arresting DMK men for protesting against the operation of an illegal gutka unit at Kannampalayam, Mr. Stalin while leading a protest claimed that the case was foisted on the DMK men at the behest of the state ministers.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore after a review his department schemes with officials on Saturday Mr Velumani refuted the charge saying none of the ministers or ruling party MLAs ‘instigated’ police to register cases against members of other political parties in any district.

Moreover, police continued to carry out searches and seize banned tobacco products across the state and were registering cases, he added.
