Chennai: State Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Friday held review meeting with District Returning officers, Police Commissioners, Superintended of Police, Income Tax officials and other polling officials in the districts through video conferencing facility from the Secretariat regarding poll preparedness in the 39 LS Constituencies and 18-Assembly Constituencies in the State. Special Election Observers also took part in the meeting.
On Thursday, Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, addressing press conference in Chennai, said that the Election Commission is awaiting a comprehensive report from the investigating agencies regarding seizure of cash in Vellore. Based on the report the Commission would take action.
“A preliminary report was submitted to EC. They would take a decision only after getting a final report. Whatever possibilities exist in law will be looked at” he said. It may be noted that following tip-off the Income Tax department on Monday seized Rs 15.13 crore from the house of Poonjolai Srinivasan, a DMK
functionary, believed to be a close associate of Mr. Durai Murugan in Vellore district.
