BENGALURU: Congress leaders of Mandya had to face the wrath of party workers on Monday over the reported joining of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Minister for Sports Narayan Gowda into the party and angry party workers hurled eggs at the windshield of the car belonging to Mandya District Congress Committee president Gangadhar.

Narayan Gowda represents KR Pet assembly seat in Mandya and he joined BJP in 2019 quitting Janata Dal Secular (JDS). Now, speculations are rife that Narayan Gowda would cross over to Congress party and contest from KR Pet on Congress ticket.

At a meeting held in Krishnaraja Pet taluk of Mandya district over arrangements to party’s ‘Praja Dwani’ yatra and attended by Congress leaders and former ministers Cheluvaraya Swamy and Narendra Swamy and Gangadhar, party workers stormed the venue and in high tone opposed the entry of Narayan Gowda and blamed Cheluvaraya Swamy, Narendra Swamy and Gangadhar for the decline of party’s strength in Mandya.

Taking note that the meeting witnessed a tense situation, Gangadhar decided to leave the meeting mid-way and when he boarded his car, angry workers hurled eggs at his windshield. The angry party workers offered bangles and sarees to the leaders alleging having no guts to build the party in the district.

Party workers wanted leaders to choose one among the six aspirants and not to allow Narayan Gowda into the Congress party. Angry party workers wanted leaders to make their stand clear on the reported entry of Narayan Gowda.
