Hyderabad: Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said that caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) used to work for him in the past like a porter. “When I was the in-charge of Congress affairs for Andhra Pradesh, Mr Rao used to work for me like a porter,” he said, a statement presumably meant to demean Mr Rao.

Mr Azad and actress Nagma were participating in a road show in Gajwal constituency on Tuesday. Gajwel is the constituency of caretaker Chief Minister Rao, and so the Congress managed to mobilise a huge crowd. Mr Azad’s speech was devoted to attacking Mr Rao.

“Mr Rao came to power to earn money and the People’s Front will be coming to power for serving the public. Seeing the response of the public, I am sure that Congress candidate Vanteru Pratap Reddy will win the election against Mr Rao with a huge majority. In the Telangana movement, there was no role of Mr Rao. It is the Congress that created Telangana.”

Alleging as usual that the TRS has a “secret friendship” with the BJP, Mr Azad said, “The TRS has placed dummy candidates against the BJP candidates in Hyderabad. It shows how the TRS and the BJP are in a relationship and are helping each other. The government is more worried about the contractors. They did not care about the farmers who lost their land in the redesigning of the projects. The farmers were given only 10 per cent of the compensation. The Congress is going to win 70 to 80 seats in these elections.”
