Asifabad: A mother and daughter managed to create history by winning as ZPTCs. The mother is likely to become the new Zilla Parishad chairperson of Asifabad district. They are none other than former MLA Kova Laxmi and her daughter Kova Aruna of the TRS.

The party high command had already announced Kova Laxmi as the party’s candidate for the chairperson’s post.  She was defeated in the assembly elections by just 176 votes at the hands of Atram Sakku of Congress who later joined the TRS.

Kova Laxmi’s daughter had contested as the sarpanch from Asifabad GP and was defeated at the hands of her aunt Marsa Akola Saraswati in the past. But now, Kova Aruna contested as the TRS candidate from Sirpur (U) seat while her mother Kova Laxmi was fielded from Jainoor.

Kova Laxmi was unanimously elected to the post as the BJP, Congress and some independent candidates withdrew.

The Congress and BJP party leaders staged protests alleging that their candidates were forcibly withdrawn after kidnapping them.

The BJP candidate even lodged a complaint against Kova Laxmi challenging her unanimous election and demanded cancellation of her election and conducting of fresh elections for the Jainoor ZPTC seat.

Kova Aruna won the election with 3, 444 votes majority from Sirpur (U). Now mother and daughter will take part in the same meetings, with Kova Laxmi as Chairperson while daughter Aruna will be a ZPTC member.

The TRS won 14 ZPTCs out of a total  of 15 in the Kumarambheem Asifabad district and posed a challenge to the Congress and BJP.
