Assam CM to take part in 'Hindu Ekta Yatra' on May 14 in Karimnagar

Hyderabad: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will take part in the ‘Hindu Ekta Yatra’ on May 14 in Karimnagar. The yatra is being organised by state BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and will be attended, among others, by BJP general secretary and state party affairs in-charge Tarun Chugh.

Though Sanjay has been organising the yatra every year for more than a decade, it assumes additional significance with Telangana going to polls towards the end of the year. The event also comes in the wake of the controversy in Karnataka of the Congress announcing that it would ban the Bajrang Dal if it came to power.

The yatra is apolitical and has nothing to do with the BJP but, since this is an election year, it is possible that those attending it would speak about how the BRS government is partial to one section of society, an aide of Sanjay said.

Also considered to headline the event were Union minister Smriti Irani and former Union minister Uma Bharati, it is learnt.

The event is targeting an attendance of at least one lakh people, with Sanjay giving a call to everyone “working towards protecting the Hindu dharma” to take part in the programme, “to display the unity among Hindus.”
