Hyderabad: Congress leaders remain suspicious of the functioning of EVMs during the recent Assembly elections and are demanding the use of ballots in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Newly appointed Congress campaigning committee chairperson Vijayashanti said many political parties in the country are having doubts about the functioning of EVMs. She lashed out at the TRS, alleging that it won the elections with the help of money and EVMs.

“The TRS has not won the recent Assembly elections in the right way,” Ms Vijayashanti told journalists. “There were several irregularities during the elections.
They won the elections with the help of EVMs and money. We will continue our fight against the TRS in the forthcoming Parliament elections. We will demand that the Election Commission go back to the ballot system followed in earlier elections. Many parties are coming forward with the same argument,” she said.
Former minister D.K. Aruna demanded that the Election Commission bring back the ballot voting system by considering the requests from various political parties. “The TRS won elections with the help of EVMs,” Ms Aruna said.

“In many developed countries, they are going for elections with the ballots. Then why can’t we go back to ballot voting? TRS leaders are saying they will win 16 Lok Sabha seats. This shows how they have decided to misuse power. We urge the people of Telangana to vote for the Congress in the Parliamentary polls. They are cheating the people in the name of Federal Front,” Ms Aruna asked.
