Though the state government has repeatedly said that it will address once and for all the issue of podu lands and provide 'some kind of pattas' to the claimants, it might not be as simple as it sounds. (DC file photo)

KHAMMAM: DCC president Puvvalla Durga Prasad lashed out at the injustice being meted out to podu farmers with the forcible take over of their lands by forest officials and police harassing them with false cases.

“The government is getting back podu lands in the name of Harith Haaram and putting adivasis in a critical situation. Many genuine adivasis did not get pattas under Forest Rights Act and the government should solve the issue as early as possible”, he said.

The DCC president said that in order to awaken the TRS government, the Congress party is organizing a blockade from Aswaraopet to Adilabad on Tuesday. “The issue of podu is bigger than expected and the government should open its eyes to the problem and redress it on a priority basis”, he said.

The government should involve revenue and forest officials in a joint survey to solve the podu problem, the Congress leader said.

Addressing party mandal presidents and vice-presidents here on Sunday, Durga Prasad said that the stir was decided upon by TPCC president A Revanth Reddy.

The podu issue is more in Enkoor, Tallada, Konigerla, Sattupalli, Aswaraopet, Karepalli and Penuballi mandals.
