CHENNAI: TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar on Thursday charged the BJP government at the Centre with trying to use the confusion in the ruling AIADMK (Amma) to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters at Erode, he also alleged that the BJP is trying to create chaos in Congress-ruled states and said the political chaos in Gujarat and Puducherry are examples for the BJP’s attempts. He also said there were no I-T raids when AIADMK MLAs stayed in Koovathur resort, but the same department had resorted to raids in a resort in Karnataka, since the Congress MLAs from Gujarat were staying there. He also blamed the BJP for the freezing of  ‘two leaves’ symbol by the Election Commission of India and lashed out at the AIADMK (Amma) for not exerting pressure on the centre to get drought relief for the state.

The AIADMK couLd have asked the BJP government to grant exemption from Neet for Tamil Nadu for supporting the BJP nominee in the Presidential elections, Thirunavukkar-asar said. But, the AIADMK (Amma) supported the saffron party’s Presidential candidate unconditionally since it is under the control of the BJP.

In the AIADMK, both the factions formed committees to hold merger talks, but later the committees were dissolved, leading to a hazy situation in the party. Thirunavukkarasar also demanded that former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence should be converted into her memorial. He opposed the stringent conditions of '8,334 per month to get ration cards. The conditions given by the centre would keep away those working in local bodies, state and central governments, besides those living in concrete houses or owning four-wheelers or refrigerators from getting ration cards, he said.
