Kerala better than Gujarat: Jairam Ramesh

Kochi: Ridiculing BJP president Amit Shah’s observation that Kerala should follow Gujarat model, Jairam Ramesh said that state was far better than Gujarat in all social indicators. Reminding the BJP leader of the infamous comments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi equating Kerala with Somalia one year ago, he said that Gujarat has nothing to be a model for Kerala.

“In life expectancy, infant mortality, birth control and all other similar social indictors ‘Somalia’ (Kerala) is far ahead of Gujarat,” he said. Comparing achievements of Kerala in social sectors with advanced countries he said life expectancy of an average Keralite is higher than that of black person in the United States.
