Karimnagar: The rise in fuel and domestic gas prices, which is making the lives of people miserable, is due to the inefficiency of the BJP government at the Centre and the TRS government in the state, city Congress president  Komatireddy Narendar Reddy claimed on Thursday.

He was speaking at a protest against the rising prices where Congress activists carried LPG cylinders and had an autorickshaw pulled by bullocks at Indira Chowk here.

Narendar Reddy said the cost of petrol has gone up from Rs 70 a litre during the UPA period to about Rs 100 now, groundnut oil Rs 80 to Rs 150 and domestic gas cylinder which cost Rs 450 the was now prices at Rs 900.

Instead of using their vehicles, the people had taken to travelling in RTC buses, he said.

The Centre is collecting Rs 33 and the state government is collecting Rs 24 additional tax on petrol and diesel. But neither the BJP nor TRS was taking any initiative to bring down the prices for the benefit of those who voted them to power, he said.

The Congress was the only party fighting for the sake of the people who are watching every move of the BJP and TRS parties. If the BJP and TRS do not take steps to bring down the prices, the Congress party will take up an agitation to teach both the parties a fitting lesson.

PCC secretary Dr Anjan Kumar, organising secretary Samad Nawab, district SC cell general secretary Erra Srinivas, Mohasin, Ravi, Md. Taaz, Anjaneyulu Goud, Irfan, Fazal, Dannu Singh, Ravinder, Krishna, Arun, Shankar, Sandeep, Manjula and Saleemuddin were present.
