ADILABAD:  Dubbaka BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao shelved the proposed Pranahitha Chevella irrigation project at Thummidihattti as it was named after B.R Ambedkar and added that Chandrashekar Rao had shown disrespect to Ambedkar many times.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of Pranahitha Jala Sadhana Padayatra led by local BJP leader Palvai Harish Babu on Sunday, Raghunandan Rao said Chandrashekar Rao made a promise during the 2018 Assembly elections that irrigation water would be given to 2.5 lakh acres of erstwhile Adilabad district but failed to fulfil his promise.

He said they would construct the Thummidihatti project once the BJP government came to power in the state and give water to local farmers. Chandrashekar Rao said the Thummidihatti irrigation project would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 20,000 crore for the benefit of the farmers of the erstwhile Adilabad but in vain, Raghunandan Rao said.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Babu said local TRS MLA Koneru Konappa remained a mute spectator when the Pranahitha Chevella project was taken to the Kaleshwaram project in 2016 and he did not raise the issue in the Assembly. Harish Babu questioned why Pranahitha water was taken to districts 120 km away from Adilabad while denying rightful share of water to local people. BJP district president Dr Kothapalli Srinivas and general secretary Kongara Satyanarayana also spoke.

A padayatra will be taken from Easgoan camp in Kagaznagar to Thummidhatti in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy formally inaugurated the padayatra.
