Hyderabad: Congress MP A Revanth Reddy on Sunday alleged that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has been luring voters by promising them double-bedroom houses before every election, and then deceiving them.

While addressing a press conference on the conclusion of his week-long padyatra (Patnam Ghosha) in the bastis of his Lok Sabha constituency, Mr Reddy said that he embarked on the foot march to get to know the people’s problems not for the sake of votes.

The Congress MP questioned why TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao is not speaking about the delay in completing the promised houses during his visits under the Pattana Pragathi programme.

The double-bedroom housing scheme for the poor was announced in the election manifesto of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in May 2014. It promised to build 5.72 lakh double bedroom flats in the state. Of this, two lakh flats were planned in Hyderabad.

The government had planned to construct 2.72 lakh houses by March 2019 and another three lakh houses by the year 2024.

While around 85 lakh people, who have white ration cards were eligible to apply for the housing scheme, over 20 lakh people have applied for the 2BHK houses.  However, except for the houses at the pilot project at Erravali village in the Chief Minister’s constituency, none of the 2BHK houses were allotted till now.

The state government owes Rs 900 crore to the contractors of the houses and as the bills have not been cleared, the contractors have stopped construction of the houses.

The Lok Sabha MP demanded that the state government expedite the construction of double bedroom houses and construct the houses for the eligible on government land.
