MP: Shivraj Cabinet Meets for Last Time, Congress Cries Foul

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday chaired a meeting of his cabinet, the last one in his current tenure, without any agenda, inviting criticism from Congress.

Mr Chouhan detailed the measures undertaken by his government for the development of the state and different sections of the society at the cabinet meeting, state home minister Narottam Mishra told reporters here.

“This was the last cabinet meeting in the current tenure of the state government”, Mr Mishra said.

Mr Chouhan recounted how his government had successfully faced the health challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic by taking measures to strengthen medical infrastructure in a short span of time.

He also detailed the welfare programmes undertaken by his government for the uplift of the poor in the state.

The chief minister also thanked his ministerial colleagues for the support they had extended to him in providing good governance to the state.

Opposition Congress however criticised the chief minister for convening the meeting of his cabinet when the model code of conduct of elections is in force in the state.

Congress spokesman K K Mishra alleged that the ruling BJP was trying to mount pressure on the state government officers ahead of the counting of votes, scheduled to be held on December three.

State urban development minister Bhupendra Singh however rubbished the charges saying that the government has the right to call the cabinet meeting.

“Congress is making all sorts of baseless allegations fearing defeat in the November 17 assembly elections in the state”, he said.
