Adilabad: BRS party supporters have been defeated in elections held for the Bhokar  Agriculture Market committee in Maharashtra. BRS candidates were seeking director posts.

BRS supporters could not win the single director post in the elections while Congress won 13 posts, BJP 3 NCP 2 of the 18 director posts in Bhokar market committee. Elections were held on Saturday and results were out in the late evening.

The BRS leaders preparing to contest the Zilla Parishad and municipal elections were disappointed over the present defeat.

Bhokar is a stronghold of Congress leader and former CM Ashok Chouhan. The Nanda, Rati, Kini, Palaz and Diwisi villages in Bhokar taluk are sharing borders with the Nirmal district. Bhokar is 35km from Bhainsa town.

The population of the Telugu-speaking people is high in the above villages. They were mobilized in big numbers for the BRS party's first meeting held in the presence of chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao in Nanded on February 5.

However, the elections were not fought on the party symbol. BRS candidates contested for the first time in the elections in Maharashtra.  BRS supporters were defeated in total 18 posts. Among them, two BRS candidates stood in second place.

BRS MLAs, minister Allola Indrakaran and ruling party leaders of erstwhile Adilabad district were disappointed a lot. Bhokar taluq shares borders with the Nirmal district of Telangana.

Vilas of Bhainsa, who has relatives in Bhokar, said the people tend to give priority to local leaders in local elections. It, though, is too early to comment on the election prospects of the BRS party in Maharashtra, he said.

The BRS candidates had promised the local people in the election campaign to implement all the welfare schemes that are being implemented in Telangana.
