Congress revolt brews in Konni

PATHANAMTHITTA: Rebellion has broken out in the Konni DCC over KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran’s move to deny the  seat to sitting MLA and minister Adoor Prakash, who is facing  corruption charges. A group of DCC office-bearers belonging to the ‘I’ group have  expressed their willingness to resign from their  posts if Mr Adoor Prakash was kept out of the fray. 

Mr. Sudheeran had favoured Pathanamthitta  DCC president P. Mohanraj for the seat. Mr Adoor Prakash had already started his election campaign in the constituency. He  has  been representing Konni for the last four times continuously  and had won with a majority of 7,774 votes in the last election.

Mr Mohanraj was also considered for the 2011 election, but was excluded in the final round of selection.  This time, he hopes to become a candidate with the  support of Mr Sudheeran.

Meanwhile, posters against Mr Adoor Prakash, who is facing inquiries in the land scam,  have also appeared  across the constituency. The workers of Western Ghats protection council had sent letters to Mr Sudheeran asking him not to give the seat to Mr Adoor Prakash, pointing out his involvement in several scams of late.

The posters seen in Konni, Pramadam  and Maylapra were in the name of ‘Save Congress Forum.’ The KPCC also constituted a two-member committee to inquire into the matter.

The CPM is also facing a poster war against its candidate R. Sanalkumar. A group of party workers   conducted a rally at Malayalapuzha alleging that he  was an outsider and demanding to give the seat to Mr M.S. Rajendran for the second time.
