NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme on August 2 in Varanasi. Under this installment, ₹20,500 crore will be transferred to 9.7 crore farmers.

Since the scheme’s launch in 2019, a total of ₹3.69 lakh crore has been disbursed through 19 installments.

On Wednesday, Union agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed preparations to ensure the maximum number of farmers benefit from the event. He directed officials to engage farmers at the national, state, district, and village levels and to organise the rollout as a nationwide campaign.

Addressing Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), the minister highlighted that Prime Minister Modi oversees the transfer of ₹6,000 to each farmer in three equal installments every four months, with KVKs playing a vital implementation role. He urged early preparations and called for celebrating the programme as both a festival and a mission, emphasising its significance as a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and public awareness initiative.

Chouhan also encouraged farmers to participate actively in the August 2 event to learn about and benefit from this and other agricultural development programmes. He instructed officials to leverage grassroots workers, Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, Bank Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, Bima Sakhis, and gram panchayat sarpanches to widely disseminate information. Additionally, he noted that interactions about Kharif crops during this period would boost farmer engagement.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance, Chouhan affirmed, the programme will be implemented with full participation and commitment to reach the maximum number of farmers.
