President and the Prime Minister to make joint appearance at Rairangpur
Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit President Droupadi Murmu’s native village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday before attending the state government's second anniversary celebrations and launching development projects worth more than Rs 47,600 crore.
In a rare and symbolic event, both the President and the Prime Minister will jointly visit Pahadpur, the in-laws’ village of Ms Murmu, before participating in a public programme at Rairangpur.
President Murmu is scheduled to arrive in Rairangpur on Friday evening after concluding her Madhya Pradesh visit. She will inaugurate a special health camp organised by AIIMS at the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital and virtually launch a drinking water supply project covering 113 mining-affected villages. She will also dedicate the Matrushakti Bhavan at Hatbadra to the public.
The President will spend the night at her residence in Mahuldiha and travel to Pahadpur on Saturday morning.
According to the Prime Minister’s itinerary, Mr Modi will land at the Pahadpur helipad around 11.05 am on Saturday and join President Murmu in visiting local places of cultural and religious significance. The two leaders will offer prayers at sacred tribal sites, including the Santhal and Ho community Jaheras, and visit the village’s Gosani shrine.
They will later visit the SLS Memorial Residential School and Skill Development Centre established in the village. The President and Prime Minister are also scheduled to pay floral tributes at memorial statues of the President’s late husband and two sons located within the school campus and interact with students.
Officials said the visit suggests the Centre’s emphasis on tribal empowerment, rural education, skill development and inclusive growth in aspirational regions.
Following the village visit, the President and Prime Minister will travel to Rairangpur, where they will attend a state-level programme marking two years of the Mohan Charan Majhi government. The event, themed “Bikashara Dhara, Odisha Sara” (Development across Odisha), will be held at Dandabos Airstrip.
During the programme, projects worth over Rs 47,600 crore across sectors including energy, industry, road connectivity, drinking water, healthcare, education, tourism and irrigation will be inaugurated, dedicated or launched.
Among the major projects for which foundation stones will be laid are the 600-MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project, two 660-MW expansion units of the Ib Thermal Power Station, and the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) project at Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a compressed biogas plant in Bhubaneswar, a new bridge over the Kathajodi river connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, road infrastructure projects in Boudh and Nuapada districts, the Kusumdihi Mega Lift Irrigation Project, an IGNOU Regional Centre and an indoor badminton complex at Rairangpur.
Projects to be inaugurated include a 300-bed district headquarters hospital at Boudh, 24 Atal Bus Stands, nine Automated Testing Stations across Odisha, the Nayagarh Town Bypass on NH-57, irrigation infrastructure under the Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project, railway connectivity upgrades and sports infrastructure in Rairangpur.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public gathering before departing for New Delhi in the afternoon.
The joint appearance of the President and the Prime Minister in Mayurbhanj, particularly at the President’s native village, is being viewed as a significant political and developmental event, highlighting the growing national focus on Odisha’s tribal heartland and infrastructure-led growth agenda.
