BHUBANESWAR: Captain Tarun Srivastava, one of the pilots injured in the Rourkela plane crash earlier this month, was discharged from hospital on Friday after nearly 11 days of treatment, marking a significant milestone in the recovery process following the tragic incident.

The aircraft had crashed at Jalda near Rourkela on January 10, leaving six people — two pilots and four passengers — seriously injured. While one pilot and two passengers have since recovered and returned home, a passenger later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

At present, only one passenger, Anita Sahu, remains under medical care. Hospital sources said her condition is stable but continues to be closely monitored.

Captain Srivastava had been undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the accident. His discharge has brought a sense of relief to the families affected, even as authorities continue to assess the circumstances that led to the crash.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital, the pilot’s wife expressed gratitude and optimism. “This is a moment of immense happiness for us. On the 10th, the situation was extremely critical. Today, we are returning home with full ‘josh’ and renewed strength — ready for another flight,” she said with a smile.

Earlier, on January 21, passenger Sunil Agrawal, who was injured in the crash and later treated at a private hospital in Mumbai, recounted the harrowing moments of narrowly escaping death. After returning to Odisha, he said he and his wife owed their lives to the two pilots of the IndiaOne aircraft.

According to Agrawal, a technical snag developed mid-air, following which the pilots made determined and repeated attempts to bring the aircraft down safely, a decision he said prevented an even greater tragedy.
