A viral video has sparked an online debate after allegedly showing the late Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s 13-year-old daughter, Dalai, flashing her middle finger at the paparazzi.
The incident took place on October 31, 2026, following the sudden demise of the Kaante director on October 30 after a fall in his bathroom. As Dalai was leaving the funeral venue in car, photographers surrounded the vehicle to capture footage. Distressed by the intense media intrusion during a time of personal grief, she reacted by hiding her face and repeatedly gesturing towards the cameras.
Some netizens criticised her actions, while many others strongly defended the minor, calling out the paps for their lack of boundaries. They noted that thrusting cameras into a grieving child’s face could naturally provoke an angry reaction.
Defending her gesture, filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia, a close friend of Sanjay Gupta, said, “Poor child. She is just 13, and she has suddenly lost her father. They should have spared her. I think all photographers should be banned from funerals and cremations.”
