Indian Soldier Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma Killed in Pakistan Army Shelling
Ceasefire violations continue for the 14th consecutive day; India responds to Pakistani shelling following Operation Sindoor retaliation, resulting in multiple casualties.
An Indian soldier, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma, was killed on May 7, 2025, in cross-border shelling by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The shelling, which occurred late at night, was part of ongoing hostilities between the two nations. Sharma, a 32-year-old soldier from Mohammadpur village in Haryana, was serving with the 5 Field Regiment at the time of his death.
The incident occurred amidst rising tensions along the LoC, with both nations engaged in a series of retaliatory shelling exchanges. Sharma, who had joined the Indian Army in 2014, was promoted to the rank of Lance Naik just recently. His martyrdom has been mourned widely, with the Indian Army paying tribute to his bravery and dedication.
The shelling by Pakistan’s military has also resulted in civilian casualties. Reports from the region indicate that at least 15 civilians have been killed, and more than 40 have been injured. Several villages in the Poonch district, including Balakote, Mendhar, and Mankote, have been significantly impacted, with residents scrambling for shelter and supplies. The ongoing clashes have led to the suspension of civilian flights and the closure of schools.
In response, the Indian Army has retaliated with targeted strikes on Pakistani military posts along the LoC, inflicting damage and casualties.
