New Delhi: The entire Opposition in Bihar has joined hands to take on the Election Commission and the Central government over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, among other issues. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be in Patna on Wednesday for a “chakka jam” against the new labour code and the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The announcement was made on Monday at a press conference that was attended by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav, state Congress chief Rajesh Kumar, AICC’s Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru and the leaders of the Left parties.

Mr Yadav said: “We will be with Mr Gandhi in Patna, but the stir will be held across Bihar. We are extending support to the chakka jam against the labour code, which is as much an assault on democracy as the revision of electoral rolls.” He also alleged that the special intensive revision, which will be complete in less than a month from now, has so far been mired in “confusion” and accused the EC of trying to help the ruling BJP-led NDA through the exercise.

State Congress chief Rajesh Kumar said Mr Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will join the protesters in the state capital, where a march has been proposed to the office of the Election Commission.

As the elections come closer, the Opposition INDIA bloc parties are closing ranks to take on the ruling NDA.

The Congress on Monday claimed that the entire Opposition stands united in opposing the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, aimed at disenfranchising the vast number of voters due to a “mischievous methodology”. The party’s media and publicity department in-charge, Mr Pawan Khera, said the Congress, along with nine political parties, had challenged the “flawed” special intensive revision in the Supreme Court. “Today, the Indian National Congress, along with nine political parties, came together to file a challenge to the flawed and destructive special intensive revision being carried out by the ECI,” he said.

“The entire Opposition stands together to oppose an exercise that is guaranteed to disenfranchise a vast number of voters due to its malicious and mischievous methodology. The Supreme Court has listed the matter for Thursday, July 10, 2025. Satyamev Jayate,” Mr Khera said in his post on X.

Earlier this week, the INDIA alliance leaders met the Election Commission of India and highlighted the discrepancies.
