Bhopal: Two Central Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Wednesday erupted in celebrations over the pre-dawn missile strikes targeting terrorists’ hideouts in Pakistan and Pak-occupied Kashmir (PoK) by India.
People irrespective of caste, creed, religion and gender poured into the streets to celebrate the occasion by distributing sweets, waving tricolor, raising slogans in praise of the army and offering prayers in temples seeking blessing for the jawans.
In Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, ‘sindoor’ (vermillion) and tricolor were offered to the Jyotirlinga in the Mahakaleshwar temple by the priests praying for blessings for the jawans.
In Indore, all the eateries in the famed “56 dukan (shops)” offered sweets and other food items prepared in their eateries free of cost to the visitors in the morning as a mark of celebration for the missile strikes in Pakistan and PoK by India to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 tourists were killed.
Muslims have also joined others in the celebrations at many places in Madhya Pradesh.
Widow of Suresh Nathanial, killed in the incident, hailed the move by the country to avenge the Pahalgam terrorist attack, recalling that a jawan who rescued her at the site on the fateful day had vowed before her that the army would find out the killer terrorists and eliminate them.
She said that the four terrorists who killed the tourists must be eliminated.
People in Chhattisgarh also celebrated the achievement by the country.
People were seen dancing in the streets and distributing sweets in different parts of the state to celebrate the occasion.
Widow of the Raipur-based businessman Dinesh Mirania, slain in the Pahalgam terrorist attack, described the retaliation as a ‘fitting tribute’ to those killed in the incident.
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the army for the operation, saying that once again it is proved that Mr. Modi makes it happen what he promises.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai posted a series of couplets on X hailing Mr. Modi and the army for the operation.
Civil defence mock drills were conducted in five cities in Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Katni and Durg-Bhilai in Chhattisgarh as per the directive by the Centre.
