On-Duty Traffic Cop Run Over In WB
The cop was crushed to death under wheels. He was declared dead at Jangipur Hospital: Reports
BERHAMPORE: An on-duty traffic police officer was run over by a speeding vehicle in Murshidabad of West Bengal on Thursday night. The fatal mishap took place on National Highway 12 at Seikhdighi more in Jangipur.
The victim, Rajkumar Karmakar (50), was the officer-in-charge of the Sagardighi Traffic Guard. He was managing traffic congestion on the road as an overloaded lorry became stationary after running out of gear midway.
Suddenly a heavily loaded dumper, which was coming from North Bengal and passing through the same road for Berhampore, mowed down Mr Karmakar for a few yards.
The cop was crushed to death under wheels. He was declared dead at Jangipur Hospital. Later the police seized the offending vehicle but its driver is absconding.
