Odisha Raj Bhawan launches Mission To Attain Net-Zero
During the interaction with the media, the Governor also highlighted several major schemes introduced by the Government of India to promote renewable energy.
BHUBANESWAR: Raj Bhavan, Odisha, is soon going to attain the net-zero target as it has launched an ambitious green initiative mission. Under the mission, the vehicles running on fossil fuels like petrol and diesel will be phased out and the entire premises will utilise solar power for its electricity needs.
Sharing details in a press conference about the mission, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday said already four electronic vehicles (EVs) have been added to the Raj Bhavan’s fleet and a 150- kilowatt solar station has been set up.
“A 150-kilowatt solar power plant is already operational within the premises, with an additional 400 kilowatts set to be installed soon, marking a significant step towards making the Governor's residence a net-zero energy campus. Furthering the green mission, a fleet of Made-in-India electric vehicles has been introduced, ranging from official cars to two-wheelers, signaling a decisive move towards sustainable mobility. Dr Kambhampati stated.
Currently, the Raj Bhavan pays around Rs 3 lakh per month. Once the 400-kilowatt solar power station is installed, it would not only help meet the totol requirement of Raj Bhavan, but also enable it to supply the surplus power to the grid.
