BHUBANESWAR: Fresh allegations have surfaced in the death case of third-year MBBS student Chandrika Hembram, with her family claiming that she underwent cosmetic treatment in an effort to meet the expectations of her boyfriend, an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer.

Speaking to reporters, Chandrika's mother, Hiramani Hembram, alleged that her daughter had been taking glutathione injections at a private clinic in Bhubaneswar after her boyfriend, Bhimsen Prasad Tudu, allegedly remarked that she was not fair or attractive enough.

According to the family, Chandrika was deeply committed to the relationship and was willing to make changes in her appearance in the hope of saving it. Hiramani alleged that problems began after another woman, identified as Swati, entered Bhimsen's life, following which he allegedly started distancing himself from Chandrika despite having promised to marry her.

The family further claimed that the deteriorating relationship took a heavy emotional toll on the young medical student and pushed her into depression.

"He used to tell my daughter that she was not beautiful or fair enough and that he preferred another woman. My daughter believed that improving her appearance would help save the relationship, which is why she started taking glutathione injections," Hiramani alleged.

The grieving mother also accused Bhimsen of exploiting Chandrika's emotional vulnerability and claimed that her daughter's death was not accidental. She alleged that the incident was a "planned act" and demanded a thorough investigation and strict legal action against those she believes were responsible.

"I want justice through the law. Those responsible for my daughter's death must be punished," she said.

The allegations made by Chandrika's family have not been independently verified.

No response was immediately available from OAS officer Bhimsen Prasad Tudu regarding the allegations levelled against him. The investigation into Chandrika Hembram's death was currently underway.
