Bhubaneswar: A major accident was narrowly averted in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday after a stage constructed for an official event collapsed shortly after Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati and other dignitaries had stepped off it.

The incident occurred amid persistent rainfall during the Governor’s two-day visit to the district. Just moments after Dr Kambhampati, accompanied by the Bhadrak District Collector, the local MLA, higher education minister, and DIG (Eastern Range), exited the platform, the rear section of the stage gave way.

As part of his itinerary, the Governor had been inspecting Women Producer Groups and the Industrial Park at Kadabarang. According to eyewitnesses, heavy rain began during the event, prompting organisers to swiftly escort the Governor and guests to the nearby office of the Women’s Federation. Within minutes of their departure, the stage partially collapsed.

While the collapse caused momentary panic among attendees, no injuries were reported. Officials have since pledged a thorough review of safety arrangements for future public events to prevent similar incidents.
