Ahead of the launch, Majhi shared his views on social media, reiterating his government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified life for women.
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday launched the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana during his day-long visit to Ganjam district. The scheme was formally inaugurated at the Maa Taratarini shrine, one of the region’s prominent religious sites.
As part of the programme, the Chief Minister attended a mass marriage ceremony where 200 couples were married collectively. He later offered prayers at the Maa Taratarini temple.
Ahead of the launch, Majhi shared his views on social media, reiterating his government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified life for women. He said the newly introduced scheme is aimed at reducing the financial burden of marriage on economically disadvantaged families.
“Protecting the interests of the people of Odisha, and in particular ensuring a dignified life for women, is the foremost resolve of our government. In this direction, the auspicious launch of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana is taking place today, so that the marriage of daughters does not remain a burden for parents from economically disadvantaged families, especially those belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities,” the Chief Minister wrote.
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana has been designed to support parents from economically weaker sections, with special focus on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, ensuring that marriage does not become a financial hardship for their daughters.
