NSUI Marches Against Police Action, Demands Amit Shah's Resignation
Congress' student wing alleges excessive force during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' protest; several workers detained en route to Jantar Mantar.

The National Students' Union of India staged a "Students' Justice March" towards Jantar Mantar to protest the police action -- including the use of pellet guns -- against students during the July 20 "Sansad Chalo" march, demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the official student wing of the Congress, said its members were stopped at a roundabout before reaching the protest venue.
Around 10 to 12 of their workers were detained after they began marching from the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) office on Raisina Road towards Jantar Mantar, raising slogans against the Centre, it said.
Addressing the gathering before the march, NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar questioned who ordered the alleged police action against students and demanded accountability.
Jakhar claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah must answer who authorised the action, stating that responsibility must be fixed, whether the action was carried out on the Home Minister's directions or without his knowledge.
NSUI workers said since morning, heavy police deployment was in place outside the NSUI office, with barricades erected on approach roads. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel and detention buses were stationed at the site as workers assembled for the march, they said.
The Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Sansad Chalo" protest march in New Delhi turned violent, injuring 118 police personnel, including senior officers and several women officers and approximately 60 protesters.
However, the tension culminated in a major political breakthrough on July 25. Hours after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, the CJP called off its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar over the NEET issue immediately, declaring that the government had finally accepted all its demands.
