NIT Rourkela To Confer Degrees On 2,033 Students

Rourkela: As many as 2,033 students will receive their degrees at the 24th Convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela on September 12, with Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Member, NITI Aayog, as the chief guest.

S.N. Subrahmanyan, chairperson, Board of Governors, NIT Rourkela, will preside over the ceremony.

The graduating batch comprises 1,525 male and 508 female students from a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. B.Tech accounts for the largest share with 911 graduates, followed by M.Tech (514) and Ph.D. (190).

The convocation will also recognise academic and co-curricular excellence, with 86 medals and awards to be presented to meritorious students. These include 11 Institute Gold Medals, six Endowment Gold Medals, eight Endowment Awards and 61 Institute Silver Medals.

The Institute Gold Medals will recognise achievements including the best graduates in B.Arch. and B.Tech., outstanding postgraduate performance, the best undergraduate and postgraduate projects and the Best MBA student. The awards will also include the Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera Gold Medal for the Best Undergraduate All-Rounder.

Two distinguished alumni will be honoured with the Distinguished Alumnus Award 2026.

Rajarshi Gupta, a 1988 B.Sc. Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) graduate and Managing Director and CEO of ONGC Videsh Ltd, will receive the award in the Industry and Management category for his contribution to India's global energy security through international investments and acquisitions.

Gyana Ranjan Mohanty, a 1980 B.Sc. Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) graduate, Managing Director of Corrosion Protection Ltd and co-founder of B. Engineers & Builders Pvt. Ltd., will be honoured in the Entrepreneurship and Public Life category for his contributions to infrastructure development, defence manufacturing and heritage conservation.

NIT Rourkela Director Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao said the convocation marked the culmination of years of learning and perseverance while opening a new chapter for the graduates.

He expressed confidence that the graduating students would carry forward the Institute's emphasis on excellence, innovation and social responsibility.

Prof. Sidhartha S. Jena, Professor-in-Charge of the convocation, said all graduating students would receive their degrees through the DigiLocker facility.
