VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed pride and excitement as two advanced Project 17A stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, were commissioned into the Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu described the commissioning as “a proud milestone for India and Andhra Pradesh.” Taking to social media, he emphasised that the frigates embody the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and showcase the growing maritime importance of the country’s eastern seaboard.
“These world-class frigates will boost the Navy’s combat strength while reaffirming India’s commitment to self-reliance in warship design and construction,” Naidu said.
IT Minister Nara Lokesh echoed the sentiment, calling it “a proud day for the City of Destiny, Visakhapatnam.” He described the vessels as “two guardians of our seas” that embody “India’s strength, self-reliance, and eternal spirit of courage.”
