Bhopal: A truck driver in a Madhya Pradesh town taught a transport broker, dangerously clinging to the speeding lorry to extort money from him, a lesson by carrying him atop the vehicle for five km.

The incident happened in the district headquarters of Rewa on Saturday afternoon, but it came to light on Sunday when a video showing the broker’s ordeal went viral on social media.

The clip showed the unidentified broker hanging onto the door of the driver’s cabin in the speeding truck, begging him to stop the lorry and save his life.

The truck driver, identified as Sumit Patel, however refused to relent and was seen in the video speeding his lorry ignoring pleadings by the broker to let him go.

The video was shot by someone sitting inside the driver’s cabin, probably the helper, and later made viral on social media.

Patel however relented when the broker promised him not to harass the truck drivers again and dropped him at a place, around five km from the district headquarters of Rewa, sources said.

Later, Patel explained that he was fed up with the broker for extorting money from him repeatedly.

He lost his temper when the broker demanded money from him and misbehaved with him when he refused to oblige him.

The broker then mounted on the speeding truck to demand money, leading Patel to accelerate the speed forcing the former to cling onto it to prevent him from falling.

The broker then panicked and started pleading for mercy.

The truck was travelling from the check post of the road transportation office (RTO) at Hanumanan to Rewa when the incident took place.

Incidentally, the state government has earlier announced that all the RTO check posts in the state have been closed since July one this year.

The truck drivers alleged that the brokers have become a nuisance at the check post by extorting money, acting as RTO officials.

However, the incident has not been reported to the police so far.
