Bhopal: An adult male tiger was found dead in a well in the forest in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district, officials said on Monday.

Carcass of the tiger, believed to be aged between four to five years, was found in a well in Chargaon village in the Lakhanwada area of Seoni forest division late on Sunday, a senior forest officer said.

The tiger had strayed from the nearby Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) in the state and fell into an electric trap, laid by farmers to stop wild animals like boars from destroying standing crops, while chasing a prey and getting electrocuted, the forest officer said.

The farmer might have thrown the carcass into the well to come clean, he added.

However, detailed necropsy will establish the exact cause of death, the forest officer said.

This was the 24th tiger death in Madhya Pradesh in the current year so far.

Madhya Pradesh has earned the tag of ‘Tiger State’ for being home to the highest number of 785 tigers as per the last census.
