Bhopal: A pet dog in a Madhya Pradesh town was so loyal to his master that he ensured that the latter’s last journey would be its own also.

Duggu, the 15-year-old pet dog had grown restless when his master Pradeep Jain (67)’s body was brought home in district headquarters of Betul from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, on Monday evening.

The dog was seen moving crazily around the body and barking.

He refused to calm down despite being caressed by some of the family members.

With guests and visitors swelling at home to pay last respect to the mortal remains of Jain, the dog became unusually restless and started barking loudly.

This forced the family members to take him to another room.

The pet animal later returned to the room where the body was kept on its own and sat quietly close to the body with its tears rolling down its cheeks incessantly.

The heartrending sight had moved the guests and even the bereaved family members.

“Duggu was brought home by my brother when he was a puppy and their bonding grew over the time so strong that they ate together on the same plate and both of them invariably used to fall sick together”, Dilip, younger brother of deceased Jain, recalled.

The dog took part in the funeral procession of his master along with other mourners and suddenly collapsed on the way to the cremation ground and died.

Jain was cremated according to Hindu rites at Ganj Mokshdham, the cremation ground, in Betul, whereas the pet dog was buried in the nearby area with due respect, the bereaved family members said.
