MP Patient Given ‘Mineral Water Drip’ Instead of Saline; Video Goes Viral

A video, showing a patient in the district hospital in Dindori in Madhya Pradesh purportedly being administered mineral water drip, has gone viral, leading the local medical officer to initiate action in the matter.

The youth, identified as Satyam Yadav (18), was seen in the video lying on the hospital bed and vomiting while being administered the reported mineral water (Blue brand) drip, instead of saline.

A woman and a young boy were seen in the clip sitting by the side of the patient.

Hospital sources said that the youth had purportedly consumed rodenticide and was admitted to the district hospital on Wednesday.

Someone present in the hospital ward took the video of the youth being administered mineral water drip and later made it viral.

The Dindori district chief medical health officer (CMHO) Dr. Manoj Pandey sprang to action after the video went viral and sought explanations from Dr. Bharat Sahu and nurse Bhavna Chaudhary, who were on duty then, regarding the incident.

“It is a serious lapse”, the CMHO said.

According to Dindori Kotwali police station inspector Durga Prasad Nagpure, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Ram Babu Dewangan visited the hospital on Thursday to probe the incident but he could not find the patient.

According to Mr. Nagpure, the patient had left the hospital on his own at around six pm on Wednesday.

Action will be taken in the matter after recording the statement of the patient, he said.
