Bhopal:The Jabalpur district collector has submitted a report on the health status of the racehorses, brought to Raipura stud farm on the outskirts of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, to the MP High Court. The racehorses had been transported from the Hyderabad Race Club
Sources said the 800-page report detailed how care of the racehorses was being taken in the stud, with their health examinations daily.
A three-member team of veterinary doctors visit the stud farm every day to checkup their health and arrange necessary medical treatment for the horses, the report said, according to a senior officer of the state veterinary department.
The High Court had earlier directed the Jabalpur district collector and relevant government bodies to submit a report on the status of the racehorses given shelter in the stud farm. The High Court had also directed the official to submit a report assigning causes of deaths of some horses in the farm.
“Postmortem reports of all the 12 deceased horses of the stud have been submitted in the report”, sources said.
The report said all the 45 surviving horses were in good health and their medical care is being well taken care of, sources added.
The caretaker of the stud, Sachin Tiwari, has submitted a status report on the horses in his farm before the High Court, sources said.
“Both the reports will come for discussion on the next date of hearing in the case on August 7,” Umesh Tripathy, counsel for the petitioner who filed the public interest litigation (PIL) in the case, told this newspaper.
The High Court, on June 20, had admitted the PIL filed by Jabalpur-based animal rights activist Simran Issar seeking action against Hyderabad-based racehorse expert Suresh Paladugu and caretaker of Raipura stud farm Tiwari for the alleged improper transportation of the horses from Hyderabad and death of some of them in the farm.
The High Court issued notices to several individuals including Paladugu and bodies dealing with the racehorses seeking their reply to the petition. Some of them including Paladugu have failed to submit their reply, the advocate said.
As many as 57 racehorses were transported from Hyderabad to Raipura in May this year. A dozen of them have died during the period for various reasons.
